The Dental Innovation Center (DICE) at the University Medical Center Mainz, in close cooperation with the IZKS, is your trusted partner for the development, implementation, and clinical testing of innovative dental products.

By combining theory and practice as well as science, education, and industry research, we develop groundbreaking concepts and products for dental practices and dental laboratories.

As your partner, we provide tailored support to start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and large industrial partners in the development and execution of clinical trials and innovations in dentistry.

Our interdisciplinary team, with expertise in dentistry and regulatory affairs, supports you in in product development and clinical study design. We guide you through to approval process and generate clinical data for a variety of dental products, including innovative toothbrushes to novel biomaterials and prosthetic materials.

With a strong focus on the Medical Device Regulation (MDR), we ensure compliance with the strict requirements for the approval and monitoring of medical devices in the EU. This is particularly important for products containing nanomaterials, substance-based medical devices, and reusable surgical instruments, which must be reclassified under the MDR.


At the Polyclinic for Periodontology and Conservative Dentistry, we conduct various studies in the fields of periodontology/prophylaxis, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, restorative/aesthetic dentistry, and interactions between periodontitis and systemic diseases.
